Sun Protection & Swim Safety
Summer is a great time for outdoor activities, but it's important to protect your child from sun exposure and water-related risks. Here are some tips for sun protection and swim safety:
- Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 and apply it 30 minutes before heading outdoors.
- The sun’s rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so try to stay out of the sun during those hours.
- Never leave children alone near a body of water, even for a moment; close supervision by a responsible adult is the best way to prevent drowning.
- Avoid inflatable swimming aids like "floaties." They are not a substitute for approved life jackets and can give children and parents a false sense of security.
- Children should always wear life jackets when on boats, docks, or near bodies of water.
Wishing your family a sun-safe, swim-smart, story-filled summer!
